Accessibility

A website everyone can use

The people we serve and the families who support them deserve equal access to information. Accessibility is built into this website from the ground up, not added afterward.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidance and Section 508.

What we've done

  • Every page uses meaningful headings, landmarks, and a "Skip to main content" link.
  • The whole site works with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
  • Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA color-contrast requirements.
  • Photos have descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Form fields have visible labels, required fields are identified, and errors are described in text and announced to assistive technology.
  • Animations respect your device's "reduce motion" setting, and no content flashes.
  • Pages reflow for small screens and zoom up to 400% without losing content.
  • Links and buttons are large enough to tap comfortably.

How we test

We test with automated tools, including Google Lighthouse and axe, and by hand with a keyboard, browser zoom, small screens, and reduced-motion settings.

Known limitations

Some links lead to websites we don't control, such as the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Facebook. We can't guarantee the accessibility of those sites, but we're happy to help you find the information you need.

Report a barrier or request an alternative format

If something on this website is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us. We'll work with you to provide what you need, usually within two business days.
